Coach?

We are getting things back on track with the kids not coating the house in snot as well as returning to daycare this week. It's been nice to get back to working during the day rather than trying to cram as much in as possible after the kids eventually fall asleep.

The big adjustment this week however is the return to coaching morning practices at the rowing club. I am not going to lie I have really enjoyed sleeping like a normal human the last couple of months. As you can see from my sleep tracking the first wake up hit me like an Emu at top speed.

Once I started to prioritize sleep a bit more and Beauden remembered how to sleep through the night (Beauden's sleep habits will require it's own post at some point) I started to feel a bit better and ready to get back into training more heavily. As the Half Ironman gets closer I feel like I should get more structured with my training. As a full time rowing coach it should be quite easy to whip up a training plan for myself without much issue. There are a couple of problems with this idea:

1. There maybe some different between training for a roughly 6-8 minute rowing race vs. a 6-8 hour multi sport event? Will investigate further.

2. I clearly have no respect for Coach Craig's authority (he is a bit of an ass anyways).

3. I seem to have fairly inconsistent scheduling of my workouts on a week to week basis.

These factors combined have me starting to think about hiring a coach for myself. I think having somebody that really understands what I want to do will be beneficial. The fact that I will also be accountable to someone other than myself should increase my adherence to the training plan. Having someone else do the heavy lifting in terms setting the plan up for me would be SOOOOOO nice. As much as i enjoy creating training plans (it's actually quite fun) I don't think I have the knowledge for this one. If anyone reading this knows of a tri coach that is either in Nanaimo area or works with athletes virtually please let me know.

Anyways let's get to the good news for the week! I managed to get out for a 10km run on Wednesday. It was probably the most comfortable I have ever felt over that distance. My pacing was quite good and at the end I felt like I could have easily continued at that pace for quite a while longer. I feel like this is a bit of a victory for me as only a few months ago running and I were not friends at all. I followed this up by squeezing in a run while adi was in gymnastics class. It was only just over 5k but the legs were a little sore from the day before. Still had pretty good speed for running on tired legs. I geuss I should get some biking in this week.
