Unsurprisingly the triathlon that I was entered in for July 18th has been canceled. While not at all unexpected it's still disappointing. This means I am in really good shape for no reason.

Like seriously the last few weeks have been pretty tough on the training side of things as they have included some of the longest workouts I have ever done. In the course of one run session I was about a km short of running a half marathon. I obviously finished it off which made it my first ever half marathon. Considering my feelings about running in general this is a pretty big accomplishment.

I remember a few years ago when biking that far seemed hard.
Last week was probably the hardest week of training I have had in the entire training program.
The first hard workout of the week was a 109km bike ride that Ben and I did.

I felt pretty good during most of it. Ben's ride did not go so well as you can see from his description

Now could the fact that he had done a row, weights, a swim with me, and a mountain bike the day before as well as a row the morning of contributed to him cracking? I mean it's possible I geuss. But I doubt it. I am clearly just the superior athlete.
After recovering from the ride for a couple days with lighter workouts the week was finished with a big race prep session.
Honestly it could have gone worse. I felt pretty good up until the run. The run didn't feel great but I set a new personal record for a 10km so it couldn't have been that bad. Or my previous 10km efforts were just garbage 😬.
Anyways the day after this workout we found out the event was canceled so that added a more sting into the legs.
Where to go from here? Well they have made the event virtual so I will complete a half Ironman on my own (or with Ben) between now and the 18th. The Virtual event is not my favorite format as I really enjoy competing against people. More enjoy beating people than getting beat but that is not the point. I may move it up a week or two as a feel pretty ready for it right now.
Once I get the virtual event done I think it will be time to take a few weeks off to rest and relax before starting to prepare for the start of cyclocross season in September. That training plan is lower volume and higher intensity than tri training so I am looking forward to that change of pace.
On a happier note Adi finished her soccer season and loved it! If you recall I had warned Kylie that the would definitely be days of standing on the field in the pouring rain. Well that never materialized as we had great weather for every soccer day!

We also got to celebrate Kylie's [REDACTED] th birthday!!!!

Look at that inferno.
We even managed to escape the children for a night and head down to the cabin by ourselves. We are generally a little hesitant to leave Beauden with either of our parents as he has a tendency to wake up for several hours in the middle of the night which is unpleasant to say the least. This obviously means that the night we left him with my parents he slept through the night no problem. I think he is out to get me.

Still can stay mad at him.
Adi was less of a concern to leave behind. We did however hold of telling her that she was going to have a sleep over at Kylie's parents until the day of. Why you ask? Because this was the top of our stairs 10 minutes after we told her.

If she had anymore time to pack we would have needed a moving company.
I would post some pictures of our awesome get away but I didn't take any. To busy not parenting to bother with that.
I will hopefully get a post up once I decide on the date and course for my virtual half as well as a write up about how terrible it was.
DBS and get your Jab!
We did!
