Hi, my name is Craig Rutherford and on August 30th 2020 I decided that I would complete an ironman triathlon in the Summer of 2022. This is where I should mention that I have no formal swim training other than swimming lessons as a child which as I recall I was not super keen on. Oh yah did I mention I don't really run. A rugby injury that led to reconstructive surgery on the ligaments of my left ankle pretty much ended my distance running ambitions for the last 7 years.
On a positive note biking has been my main form of exercise for the last couple years and I managed to put in some good volume during the start of the COVID-19 lockdown. I have also raced in the much loved Cross on the Rock cyclocross series the last several years as my competitive outlet.

(Not competitive in this race, but clearly having fun!)
In order to get myself on the right track I decided to enter a half Ironman in the late spring of 2021 (now pushed to summer of 2021) as well as joining my wife for a yet to be determined half marathon. Luckily both of us getting the training time in should be no problem as we both work full time on somewhat opposite schedules and have a 4 year old and an almost 2 year old that go to daycare 3 days a week. Note: this is written at 9pm on a Monday as I am on the bike trainer in our basement😐. This is fine?
Once January hit my wife and I decided we should get off our ass's and get a little more serious about our training and our nutrition. We are now a couple of weeks of weeks into it and there have already been ups and downs and everything in-between so I thought I would track this journey and open it up to anyone who wanted to follow along for their own interest.
Please enjoy the ride and DBS!
Craig

Nice Craig, if I can't hang out with friends it's fun to follow along from a distance!
