Overdue post!

As training volume and intensity has remained high I have obviously fallen a bit behind updating here. Sleep won out. It wasn't close. There have been a few highlights that I will cover here but some details that you probably didn't care about won't make the cut this time around. I know everyone is crushed I will try to do better!
One of the main highlights was that Kylie and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary! By celebrate I mean tried unsuccessfully to hide from the kids out on the deck and enjoy a nice glass of prosecco.

Did not work.
Kylie has been really supportive with my triathlon goals. Some motivational quotes from her include " you are probably going to start way to fast and struggle through most of it" and "That seems really far". But in all seriousness she is my biggest supporter in this poorly thought out plan.
Love you!
If you thought that was disgusting cute get a load of Beauden in his new glasses:

Even harder to stay mad at him with those on.
Another important milestone was that I did my first open water swim in mid April. The water was not warm but I managed to get a solid swim in even if my feet and hands went numb about 42 seconds into it. Another important point is that despite swallowing a bit of lake water during the swim I am happy to report that there was no subsequent diarrhea! Not so sure I will get as lucky if the same thing happens in Elk lake for the race.🤮🤮🤮
In terms of training things have been going quite well. I did a 5km run TT that I am fairly confident was the fastest 5km I have ever run! Not to be outdone Kylie also crushed a new personal record for 5km!

On the bike I have stated to get some longer rides in which is nice. What is not so nice is that it seems that my coach has an affinity for hill repeats. If you know me you may have noticed that I am generally not the size of person that goes up hills effectively. So that's fun. Compounding that in the last few weeks I have been less on top of my nutrition than I have been previously so I might be trying to haul an extra kilo or two up the hills with me. Personally I blame the cabin/deck beers and the delicious snacks that go with them. As we are now just over 10 weeks away I am going to make a conscious effort to get back on top the nutrition side of things as it would be nice not to haul my entire fat ass though an half Ironman.
On a non triathlon specific note I got out for my first row of the year! You would think that as a rowing coach I would be able to row quite often. That is not the case. It was great to get out in the coastal boat down at the cabin even if I had a very demanding and critical passager.

I eventually traded her in for one that was just a swim risk.

That's all for now!
