With the cancelation of the physical event and switch to a virtual event I obviously kept my training plan going full steam and am fully prepared to take on this event.... Yah not so much. I may have gone in to full sulking like a 3 year old mode and missed several workouts. I got things back together a just in time to start tapering into the event. The heat wave actually gave me a nice excuse to take things easy as well. The one thing I have found with less workout volume is that I have been feeling more rested and been feeling really strong on the bike. Let's hope I still feel good come for when I do the event THIS SATURDAY!!!!!!!!

Since the event is virtual I will be basing my race in Nanaimo. Here is the game plan:

6:30am Start with the 1.9km Swim in Long Lake

Shockingly hard for me to find a photo of long lake without a rower being front and centre in it.

Long Lake is still less gross than Elk Lake. I think.

The Swim is obviously not my strongest event so I am hoping to get in done in 40-50min.

Here is plan A for the bike:

If there are high winds I will have to change on the fly as I have little to no desire to ride into a head wind

After that comes the half marathon. I did one on the first hot day of the heat wave. It went pretty badly. I over heated about 15km in and couldn't get my heart rate back to my normal running level.

ree

I got it done but it hurt. 190 heart rate for an hour is fine right?

My new plan is a net negative of elevation for the race route.

I am not above this.

I will keep this update short as I will have a longer post event write up that my mom will hopefully feel obligated to read.

To finish here are the usual family photos that most of you actually come here for:

On this cabin trip Beauden decided he sleeps in a real bed:

That was supposed to be my bed...

If I am on the ball I will post my tracking link on Facebook/Twitter so you can follow along with my misery. Otherwise I will write something whenever I come back to life.
