Part 1: The Swim
I managed to get a swim in this week!!!!!! This is the first time in almost a month I have gotten to the pool. It went fairly well once I remembered that I needed to breathe when my face wasn't under water.
Not much else to say about this but felt I needed to point out that I actually swam for once.
Part 2: The Bike
As I have tried to up my fitness and volume I decided it was a genius idea to jump into the deep end this weekend with a 130km virtual ride on Zwift that had almost 2400m of elevation. This may not have been the best choice I have ever made. I finished in just under 6 hours but it was the journey not the destination that was what it was really about (mostly because it was on a stationary trainer so I didn't actually move anywhere). Some highlights included:
The awesome quinoa crust pizza we had the night before

Kylie is celiac so it is a challenge to find a top notch gluten free pizza crust. This nice thing about this recipe is that it doesn't try to be a dough based crust but has its own flavor as well as a very satisfying crunch. Toppings on the bigger ones were goat cheese, sausage, kalamata olives and arugula. Not sure what Adi and Booger put on the smaller ones.
The massive stockpile of food that I had for the ride.

The positive attitude that I started with.

That didn't last.
Having to change my cycling shorts a few hours in because it felt like I was riding in a kiddie pool.
(Not pictured) Nobody wants to see that.
This monstrosity of an energy gel was the absolute low-light of the entire ride.

Just disgusting.
Overall I am pretty happy about how I got through what was my longest ride on the trainer by quite a bit. I was pretty comfortable for the first 4 hours but the last 2 hours were a slog for sure. I included my heart rate data from the ride for those that are interested. I think it's interesting so that's the important part.

I definitely paid a bit of a price for the ride as you can see from my overnight resting heart rate after the ride relative to a normal day.

The other high day is from red wine 🤷♂️
Luckly the ride started at 6am so I was done by noon and only had to survive most of the day before I could blissfully pass out.
Part 3: The Run
I honestly didn't think I would get a run in this week as there was still a bit of snow on the sidewalks and trails early in the week and I took things easy coming into the big ride on Saturday. Since Sunday was such a nice day Adi wanted to get out for a bike ride. I normally either ride or jog beside her depending on my mood. Since I was barely able to get my self up or down stairs (or up from a chair) I decided that running beside her was the way to go. Now if you are thinking the only reason I made this this choice is because my butt was so sore from the ride that the thought of sitting on a bike seat made me want to throw up a little bit you would be 100% correct. Usually it is not a big deal for me to keep up with Adi while running but of course she decided that she wanted to go full send mode so this was my view for 90% of the ride.

She also magically had enough energy and strength to ride up hills for the first time in her life which is were I would catch my breath. By the end of it my legs were feeling worse than when I started.
Going to curl up in ball now
