The recent cold (For Vancouver Island) weather has lead to an increase in indoor training. I mean I guess I could go outside for a run but it's kinda cold. Also any encounter with ice will probably spell the end of whatever ligaments are still attached to my ankles after 10 years of playing rugby. As we only own a bike trainer both Kylie and I have been doing our best to crush kms on Zwift. If you haven't heard of zwift it is a virtual reality game that connects to the smart trainer to adjust the resistance on the bike simulating the terrain that you are on in the game. It's pretty good as the game includes races and workouts.

The trainer resides in a unfinished room in our basement. Normally there is the trainer and a bit of space for some free weights and a area to use them/stretch. However with the kitchen renovation this room has become the storage area to keep tools away from small irresponsible children.

The kitchen is pretty close to being done though:

The wattage cottage will soon be back to it's former glory! The temporary loss of the stretching space that I rarely to never use is a trade off I am willing to make.

I have found lately that with trying to get more volume in I have lowered the intensity of my workouts on the bike quite a bit which has lead to a dramatic drop in my top end power. I have also dropped a few kg's in the last month which also doesn't help with raw power output (makes going up hills easier though!). So this week I have tried to incorporate a some harder sections into my rides. After a period of time not hitting the high heart rate going back to it is unpleasant (read: fuck8ng terrible). By the end of the week I was starting come back a bit and it was more comfortable. While raw power in not super important for triathlon being able to unleash a big sprint in a virtual race that only I care about is very important to my brain that loves few things more than it does winning.

I have so far put in a pretty solid effort in terms of cycling kms this week. It would have been even higher but SNOWPOCALYPSE hit. By snowpocalypse I mean like a solid 10-15cm of snow. As this happens so rarely here working out took an obvious back seat to playing in the snow with the kids (I did manageto sneak in a quick nap time ride).

As you can see we all had a great time. Being the loving father and mature human being that I am the highlight of the day was the laser of a snowball I threw from about 30ft away and hit Adi right in the head! I said we would be celebrating all the successes big and small well this is a huge success!!!!!!!! Luckly Adi took it pretty well.

Looks like it will be another day in the snow tomorrow!

Swimming seems like a next week problem.
